October 2000

OCT MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
The October meeting was called to order by Bob Obenland, the president, and reports were given by the officers and committee members. A recommendation was made by the board, voted on and accepted by the general membership, to donate to two charities. The charities are Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital (The Lotsy Dotsy Fund) to receive $250 and Sheridan House Ministries to receive $500. There were over 80 people attending this meeting which was the club's 8th Birthday party. After the business meeting, the club celebrated with a birthday cake provided by the club, and had a swap and sell among the members. The special raffle piece of "The Night Before Christmas" was on display and chances were sold with the drawing to be held in November.

After the break Bob Obenland gave demonstrations on how to do water in your village. He first showed two easy ways to create water with simple materials such as wax paper, aluminum foil and plastic wrap which can be acquired anywhere. Next he demonstrated two more difficult techniques of creating a pond by using wax and "Easy Water", which is available at train stores. Both techniques involved melting the substance to create the water. He also showed how to make an ocean with white caps out of colored sand.
