The meeting was called to order by Bob Obenland, who introduced the board members , and welcomed new members. The reading of the minutes from the September meeting were waved. The Treasurer’s report was given by Bob Obenland in Rebecca Grohall’s absence, and accepted by the membership. This meeting marked the 11th birthday of the club. Display Contest (by Chris Barrett) Here we were sitting at the October Board meeting discussing the display contest to be held at the October meeting, when someone asked Vickey, “What if we only have one or two displays?” It suddenly got quiet, and we all thought, “what if”. Two weeks before the meeting is not enough time to add to or change the meeting’s focal point. Our wonderful members didn’t let us down. As we were setting up the room for the meeting, one by one, displays were being brought in – a total of 14 – WOW! An added touch was the snowman Vickey made for those participating. Our thanks go to the following talentedVillage Landlords’ University graduates who made our meeting a huge success: Halloween: Mary Jo Zettle (spooky and fun); Kady Treadwell (loved those stairs and RIP lights set in around the base); and Bill Shields/George Fells (how about those muscle shells hanging from the trees). North Pole: Vickey Gendron (theme based on North Pole Start a Tradition with creative and fun use of Styrofoam); Gene Armeno ( a mini Reindeer village in itself - no doubt Reindeers are very important to Santa); and John McClain (set in a Radio Flyer red wagon). Easter (Spring has sprung): Diane Rosenbaum (theme based on Verna Mae’s Boutique Gift Set); Jason Wade (Easter House surrounded by colorful flowers). New England: Chet Rosenbaum (Fall theme using Harper’s Farmhouse in an apple basket); Irma Rossier (theme set around Whale Tale Pub & Inn). Literary Classic – Peter Gendron (Sherlock Holmes on a violin cut from Styrofoam). Dickens Village: Phil Gold (J. Lytes Coal Merchant in a black as coal, coal bucket); Larry Treadwell (The Old Royal Observatory in a multilevel vignette, “Watch the Sky and The Right To See The Stars”, with a comet moving across the sky). Snow Village: Sandra/Olga Sanchez (Mexican flavor - bring on those Fajitas - using Rosita’s Cantina set in a wooden chest). Congratulations to our First Place ($56) winner, Kady Treadwell, for her Halloween display and our Second Place ($25) winner, John McClain, for his North Pole display. Thanks Vickey for a wonderful idea for a meeting, can’t wait until next year’s contest. |
