NOVEMBER MEETING

The meeting was called to order by Bob Obenland, who introduced the

board members and welcomed new members. The reading of the minutes

from the October meeting were waved.

The Treasurer’s report was given by Rebecca Grohall and accepted by

themembership. Bob announced that the club shirts are in and available

to be purchased. Also, that Jack’s Umbrella Shop and the new Avon

house were stillavailable for purchase. The nominating committee of

Vickey and Peter Gendron and Jonathan Stout will prepare a slate for the

members to vote in January.

An audit committee of Vickey Gendron, Nancy Fernon and Chet

Rosenbaum will review the books and give a report at the January

meeting.

An update was given on the SRG. A suggestion was made and a motion

was given and accepted to postpone the Holiday party until 2004 since

members are busy preparing for the SRG Gathering. An announcement

was made that we will not be donating to our usual charities since we

will be donating money from the SRG.

Members were asked to bring canned food to the meetings to be

donated to a local food bank. Carol Sellers volunteered to be chairman of

After the business meeting was adjourned and refreshments served, a

BEYOND OUR IMAGINATION

Winning the trip to D-56 was truly like a magical dream. We were treated

to so many wonderful places. Department 56 definitely rolled out the

royal carpet for all of the nine couples winning this prestigious trip to

Minnesota.

An art museum with wonderful historical Christmas items was on the

agenda, as well as a visit to the D-56 showroom where we were treated

to the new and upcoming village pieces, and the gift line pieces that

D-56 produces.

Wishful shopping was definitely being stimulated! We were treated to a

breakdown on the development of a village piece, how the mold is made

foreach piece, and met the artists, designers, and sculptureres, etc.

A trip to the Mall of America, and the D-56 store, was even nicer with

a gift of $56.00 to begin our spending extravaganza. The magnitude of

the mall was just mind boggling to me.

The eating arrangements were definitely first class. Mornings found us

being treated to a buffet breakfast, and lunch was at the Odyssey, in

the Mall of Americas, and another day at Basils overlooking a view of

downtown

Minneapolis. Dinners included an evening at the showroom, a dinner with

the D56 personnel, where ideas were traded, and at Forepaugh’s

Restaurant, which has an extended history of mysterious death.

Gifts were constantly being given to us. As we entered our room the first

night, which was extremely dark, there flashing in the corner was Radio

City Music Hall. It was a tremendous memory for me as I went to New

York City so many times before my move to Florida. Saturday night was

the night that was nostalgic for me when we attended the “Radio City

Christmas Spectacular”

at the historic Orpheum Theater. One of our gifts was the accessory set

of the Rockett dancers.

From a gigantic basket filled with many Minnesota goodies, to many

gifts from D56, this weekend was like a magic sleigh ride. Melinda, Jackie

and Ms. Lit Town, Judith Price, were marvelous escorts giving us a

fantastic trip of a lifetime, and we will always have a warm spot for D56.

CAN FOOD DRIVE

The canned food drive collection at the November meeting was a great

success.

Carol Sellers volunteered to to be the chairman. The collection of food

from that meeting was taken to the Broward County Food Bank and Carol

was told that it would feed 123 people. Everyone can bring canned

goods to the January meeting and it will be collected and given to the

Food Bank. A reminder that canned items that can be used as a meal;

such as, soups, ravioli, Spaghetti O’s, chili, etc. should be brought. Also,

pop top containers if available.
