NEWS FROM THE PRESIDENT

I can’t believe the April meeting will be our last official meeting until September, and that this will be our last Newsletter until then.

Except for the September meeting that was cancelled, it has been a good “season”.  We’ve had some fun programs for all to enjoy, as well as a good turnout at each meeting.
We are still talking about having a special meeting in June related to the SRG 2005.  Bob will let me know if one is needed, and we will notify all current members with a special mailing.

Our club is still not featured on the Department 56 web site, but I have been assured that it will be.  Keep looking; it should be on any day now.
Just a reminder (until the position is filled), the Programs position is still open.  Now is a good time to volunteer to start in September.

THIS MONTH’S PROGRAM

To get us all in the mood and excited about the upcoming SRG 2005, we thought a fun thing to do at our final meeting of the “season” would be to replay the video of  SRG 2003 done by Vickey and Peter Gendron and Jonathan Stout.

We will also be doing a Swap ‘N Sell, so bring those items you wish to sell, and be ready to find that one house or accessory that you’ve been looking for.

 PRIZES-PRIZES-PRIZES-PRIZES
Door prizes – There will be 10 door prizes.

Raffle Prizes – There will be a total of 5 raffle prizes, including the Mystery House.

MARCH MEETING

Using an Easter Egg carved out of Styrofoam by Vern Schweiterman from Tampa, and the Chocolate Bunny Factory and accessory, donated by Holiday Celebrations, Jeff Kirchner made a lovely spring display.  He showed us how easy it is to make flowerpots with assorted miniature flowers, and and other items he found at Michaels, Rag Shop or JoAnn’s Fabrics.  Jeff said, just by looking around in these shops, it is easy to find small, inexpensive items to help finish off your display.

The following Door Prizes were won at the March meeting:

NP “This Looks Like a Good Spot” – Dorothy Solomon

DV “Taking Grain to the Mill” – Gisela Suarez

D-56 Snow Flake Ornament – Peter Gendron

NP “Rescue Ready” – Larry Treadwell

CIC – Yankee Stadium Lighted Ornament – Bernie Striegel

Village Accessory – “Seasonal Lamppost” – Ruth McDonough

D-56 Crystal Key Chain  – Guenther Heil, Bonnie Eichholtz, Warren Boivin

D-56 Mercury Glass Ornament Hanger – Chris Barrett

These Raffle Prizes were won:

Season’s Bay “Back from the Orchard” -  Norm Barrett

Avon NP “Grandma’s Bakery – George Fells

NP “Baker’s Elves” – Elaine Smith

D-56 Village Express Van “A Christmas Place” – Betty Hargrove

Mystery House NP Woods “Reindeer Condo” – Sumner McDonough

Holiday Celebrations’ Spring Basket – Cindy Griffin, Guenther Heil

Easter Egg Display by Jeff Kirchner – Teresa Boivin

 SRG 2005

A reminder – the rooms at the Hilton are getting booked.  Don’t miss out on a chance to stay at the host hotel.  It is never too early to book your hotel reservation and to send in your event registration form.  Look for a special SRG 2005 table at the April meeting.

Gene Armeno would like to take this opportunity to thank those club members who donated houses and accessories to be used in our displays to be raffled at the SRG 2005:  The Gendron’s – “Christmas Lake Chalet Gift Set”; The Rosenbaum’s – “The Cocoa Shop”; The Obenland’s – “Giggleswick Mutton & Ham”; Irma Rosier – “Sheffield Manor & Whittlesbourne Church”; and The Armeno’s – “American Hero Comics”.  Thanks also to the Barrett’s, Bretl’s, Fernon’s and Tavernia’s, who have also committed to a donation.

A special thanks to Larry Sargent of The Christmas Place for making a display base to house the Snow Village pieces.

If anyone would like to donate houses or accessories to be used at SRG, please bring them to the April meeting.

 HOSPITALITY

Thanks to Joan Heinsinger, Vickey Gendron, Sheila Shuhi and Grace Clarke and for bringing refreshments to the March meeting.

The following people have signed up to bring refreshments for April:

Elaine Smith is the only one signed up.  Feel free to bring some goodies to share with you/
Thank you, Alyce Jensen
