 NEWS FROM THE PRESIDENT

We do not have an updated Treasurer’s Report for this Newsletter.  Rich’s computer “crashed”, and he is in the process of getting everything back.  He will have a current report for us at the March meeting.

We had a great turnout at the February meeting for our club picture.  Thanks to Peter Gendron, Jerry Fernon, and Eileen O’Connor for taking the pictures for us.

As you know, Department 56 is going to feature our club on their web site.  We have sent them the group picture, along with a history of the club, and various pictures of the different events we have held throughout the years. Look for the feature to be on their web site shortly.  Also, look for our group picture to be in the fall issue of the Department 56 Celebrations Magazine.

Just a reminder (until the position is filled), the Programs position is still open.  Even though the meetings are set through April, we still need to fill this position.

 THIS MONTH’S PROGRAM

Jeffery Kirchner from Holiday Celebrations will be doing a display in an Easter egg carved out by Vern Schweiterman from Tampa.  You will remember Vern’s seminar at the SRG, and when he was a guest speaker at one of our meetings last year.  Jeffery will be using a D-56 Easter house and accessory donated by Holiday Celebrations in his display.  The finished display will be a raffle prize.

PRIZES-PRIZES-PRIZES-PRIZES

Door prizes – There will be 10 door prizes.

Raffle Prizes – There will be a total of 6 raffle prizes, including the Mystery House, and Easter egg display.

February Meeting

Larry Sargent from A Christmas Place showed us how to get elevation in our displays with this use of platforms made out of 2 x 6’s.  Larry brought two completed displays on platforms he made, as well as various stages of the platforms, to show how he assembled and completed them.   Larry graciously donated one of his platforms, which included Dickens Village houses donated by A Christmas Place.

Larry also showed us how to light up our walkways using small Christmas lights, and how to make steps and gavel roads for our displays.

The following Door Prizes were won at the February meeting:

Mill Creek Curved Section – Charlie Heinsinger

Twinkle Light Shrubs (White) – Kathy Tavernia

D-56 Ornament (Nantucket) – Eileen O’Connor

SRG 2005

The committees continue to meet and plan for a special event.  The pool party and banquet are coming together beautifully.  If you had fun participating in the games at the 2003 pool party, you’ll love what’s planned for this year’s party.  The banquet promises to be fun, with wonderful entertainment planned.  Rooms are getting booked, so don’t lose out, if you haven’t made your hotel reservations, or sent in your SRG 2005 Registration Form, don’t delay.

HOSPITALITY

Thanks to Jerry Cunningham, Dottie Winzell, Jeffery Kirchner, Arlene Geiselman, Carlos and Gisela Suarez, Donna Fresquez and Guenther Heil for bringing refreshments to the February meeting.

The following people have signed up to bring refreshments for March:

Joan Heinsinger, Vickey Gendron, Sheila Shuhi, Grace Clarke.
Thank you, Alyce Jensen

“How to Go Broke –

but have FUN!”

(Re-printed from the National Council of 56 Clubs Bulletin, from the Village Voices)

As you invest every dime you make in Department 56, keep telling yourself … “I’m having fun.”

As you put an addition on your house so you can leave your Department 56 Village up all year long, keep telling yourself … “I’m having fun.”

As you sell the cat because you don’t want him/her to jump on your display, keep telling yourself … “I’m having fun.”

As you hope your kids never come to visit because you’re sure the “grandkids” will break a house, keep telling yourself … “I’m having fun.”

When you and the wife only stay together because neither of you will give up custody of “The Grapes Inn”, keep telling yourself …

“I AM HAVING FUN!”

DISPLAY TIPS

(Re-printed from the National Council of 56 Clubs Bulletin, contributed By Village Addicts UT)

An easy way to make colorful trees ideal for your North Pole Village.  Buy various sizes of Styrofoam cones (between 8 and 15 inches high) along with lemon drops, jellybeans, peppermints, gumdrops, licorice, etc.  Using hot glue, apply the various candies in rows around the cones. Use varathane diamond finish spray to enhance and preserve them.
