2001 Bus Odyssey

Our second bus trip was the weekend of July 14-15, 2001, and all members had a great time. The 38 people on the bus did a good job of filling the bottom of the bus with bags of D56 items.

We left at 7:00AM Saturday with our first stop in Daytona Beach where we visited the “Christmas Hut”. Keith and her staff had cookies, donuts, and drinks waiting for us. They also assembled a large collection of bargain items at very low prices!!!! Many of our members were able to find some real jewels!!! They also offered other great sales that we took advantage of.

After a buffet lunch at Ryan’s Steak House we went to St Augustine and checked into the Howard Johnson Express Inn. We had coffee and cookies and then began our tour of the old part of town and the shops. An unexpected shop with Village pieces was spotted and several of our members found and purchased the Candlerock Lighthouse Restaurant in Snow Village. Their
inventory on that piece was quickly reduced!!!

At 6:45 we boarded the Victory III for a cruise of St. Augustine landmarks and natural sites of interest. We were also visited by several Dolphins along the way. After the cruise everyone went to the restaurant of their choice.

Sunday morning found us on the road again after a continental breakfast at the hotel. We landed in Jacksonville at “Precious Cargo” where Sharon and her crew provided us with display demonstrations, bargains, and shopping.

When we left “Precious Cargo” we took a box lunch for our trip to Melbourne and the “Christmas Cottage” where hosts Dano and Rita opened their doors for us for a few hours of fun. They also had demonstrations, bargains, and shopping. As a surprise to us they treated us to dinner, giving us more time to enjoy their hospitality and shop. We were then able to board the bus and go directly home arriving about 8 p.m.

Through out the trip we were kept busy with card bingo, “house racing”, and house bingo and plenty of prizes. Everyone won a door prize from $4 to $20, and one lucky person won both mystery house raffles.

All in all it was a full two days of fun!
