November 2003

NEWS FROM THE PRESIDENT

As we come to a close of the 2003 season, House Tours are filling up fast, so new to the club, House Tours are given by various people in the club, inviting everyone to come to their home to see their display and decorations. It is a fantastic way to experience the creativity of our members, get new ideas for your own use, and celebrate the holidays with everyone. These people are gracious enough to invite you into their homes, and I’m sure you will be able to attend most, if not all of them. A generous “Thank You” from the club for those people who open their homes to the rest. For those who were unable to attend the gathering, or those wanting additional gathering items, there are still some event pieces and SRG pins that will be available at the meeting. The event piece is $16.00 and the pin is $4.00. Below is a picture of the event piece.

Yearly duties to be done in the next few months include the slate of officers to be announced and voted upon in the January meeting, and an audit committee to be formed and an audit conducted, along with a new budget. The audit committee will be headed up by Vickey Gendron, with Nancy Fernon and Chet Rosenbaum. Reports will be given in the January meeting.

THIS MONTH’S PROGRAM

This month’s meeting will be at the Deerfield Beach Railroad Museum located at 1300 W. Hillsboro Beach Blvd., Deerfield Beach, FL 33442 (just west of I95) . The Railroad Club will be hosting our meeting and two of their members will be doing demonstrations for us. One demonstration will be on weathering and the other on model building. Golden Gate Gathering

Dottie Winzell and Bob Obenland attended the Golden Gate Gathering across the bay from San Francisco by Oakland. The Swap & Sell had a fabulous view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Several hundred people attended with the theme of the gathering being Halloween. The banquet had some very elaborate costumes one of which was Frank Biafore as Camilla DeVille. Dottie and Bob taught people how to make trees in one of the make and takes. One session had over thirty people so they had their hands full. The gathering had numerous activities outside San Francisco, one of which was visiting Richard & Franks house “It Must be Magic”. Another trip was a wine tour with Judith Price.
