FEB MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
At the business part of our meeting, we discussed the overnight bus trip planned for July, and the August trip to Miami for the workshop and lunch to be sponsored by Collector's Cottage and presented by Miguel. A sample of the new club shirt was shown, and orders were taken. They should really be nice - red, with our name in gold on the front and logo in gold, green and brown on the back. (If you haven't ordered one, be sure to check them out at the next meeting - they're really nice.)
Our special guest speaker was Gene Bergeron from G & L Christmas Barn in Windham, CT. Gene demonstrated, and gave many tips, on the use of the Hot Knife. In minutes, he transformed, a piece of Styrofoam into a train tunnel with many different facades, i.e., boulders, stone. For those with limited space, he demonstrated how to build your village up instead of out. We've all wanted to do a display other than winter, but couldn't quite hide the snow on the base of the accessories. Gene showed us how to use the Hot Knife to do this. Taking one house, in no time at all, he made a vignette using colored paper to simulate water, moss, gravel and miniature flowers to finish it off.
We thank Gene for the G & L Sleigh event piece and Rock Candy trees he donated for our raffle, and for the G & L Sleigh pins he gave to everyone. All in all, everyone left pleased about all the tips they picked up, and commented on how enjoyable Gene was, not only in demonstrating his skills, but as a speaker as well. Hopefully we'll be able to have Gene back again.
