Rivet Applications
Universal Rivet, Inc. can custom manufacture rivets for virtually any application. Here are some brief examples of the more common applications:
Roller Assembly (Semi-Tubular & Tubular Rivet)
The following Roller Assembly uses semi-tubular rivets in multiple locations. These popular rivets are used to permanently fasten two or more pieces. They are strong, inexpensive and well-suited for high-speed assembly operations with automatic feed riveting machines.
- Rivets R1 secure rollers to pivot frame
- Rivet R2 serves as pivot point
- Semi-tubular feature of R2 prevents compression of exterior plates & eliminates need for spacer
Door Hinge and Pulley (Solid Rivet)
The Door Hinge and Pulley applications below both use solid rivets for strength and durability.
Door Hinge
- Solid rivet functions as center pin of hinge assembly
- Attractive yellow zinc finish
Pulley
- Solid rivets are used to assemble a pulley from two stampings
- More economical than cast pulley, more durable than spot welds
- Excellent for high volume pulley production
Shutter Roller (Shoulder Rivet)
The shoulder in the roller application below acts as a bearing surface for the nylon rollers. Shoulder rivets offer a lower unit cost than similar screw machine parts, and can be assembled with automatic feed riveting machines.

Ball Bearing Rollers (Collar Rivet)
Collar rivets are a variation of the Shoulder Rivet. They can be used as standoff to separate components, as a guide peg for mating assemblies, or as an anchor stud for a pivoting assembly.
- Collar rivet fastens ball bearing at a specific distance from frame
Vapor Plug (Cross Drilled Rivet)
Collar rivets are a variation of the Shoulder Rivet. They can be used as a standoff - to separate components; or as a guide peg for mating assemblies; or as an anchor stud for a pivoting assembly. In the Roller application below, a collar rivet is fastened to the ID of a ball bearing.
- Cross drilled rivet functions as a clevis pin
- Plates A and B are pushed together when Lever is closed
- Annular ring (elastomeric) is compressed between plates, thereby expanding to provide vapor seal
